Happy Child Care Provider Appreciation Day!

Today we celebrate Child Care Provider Appreciation Day in BC. I am an Early Childhood Educator and understand the value we bring to the children and families of British Columbia.

I would like to wish you all heartfelt thanks; the work we do is vital to the health and well-being of communities across the province.

Our dedication and commitment as ECEs is unquestionable. Child care professionals deserve to be recognized and appreciated today – and all throughout the year – for the exceptional work that we do on behalf of children and families.

Early Childhood Education is about nurturing and early learning, its about investing in our children, its about investing in our future.

The BCGEU proudly represents early childhood educators and other child care providers in over 50 child care centres across British Columbia. The voice of child care providers is strong in our union! We represent over 1500 child care providers across the province. The values we teach to children in our care are the same values shared by our union: fairness and respect.

We have to commit the resources required – on a provincial and federal level - to build an accessible, affordable and quality early care and learning system for all children. You can count on our union to continue advocating for our profession and to continue pressuring government to finally adopt and implement an innovative, “made in BC” solution to BC’s childcare crisis.  It doesn't stop there. We will continue to fight until every Canadian child and family has access to the affordable, quality, early care and learning that we know is critical to the well-being of all communities across the country.

We deserve to be respected as the professionals that we are.

We have work to do, and I look forward to working with all of you to bring accessible, affordable, quality early care and learning to every community in British Columbia.

It’s the right thing to do, for our children, their families, our communities, and for our profession.

In solidarity,

Andrea Duncan
