The BCGEU’s Shop Public campaign has a new look. You’ll see it on the BCGEU website. You’ll see it in newspaper ads we are running in Vancouver and Victoria this week.
As we head into the holiday weekend our union is also running radio ads around the province reminding British Columbians of the changes at BC Liquor stores. We also produced a short animated video that we will use for the first time this weekend at the Cloverdale Rodeo.
We want to make sure everyone knows that BC Liquor stores are open Sundays, holidays and extended hours, and that more and more stores are now selling refrigerated products.
These are important changes to BC Liquor store retailing. They build on the tradition of better pricing, better selection and social responsibility of our public stores. These changes are also crucial to protecting the jobs of our members who work in them. Given a choice, we believe British Columbians prefer to shop at public BC Liquor stores.
We continue to encourage BCGEU members in the stores to do what they can to make sure customers are aware of these changes. Please wear the buttons and distribute bag stuffers to customers. We expect Sunday and holiday shopping to increase steadily as more and more people realize our stores are open seven days a week.
Much of the uncertainty around staffing and scheduling on Sundays and holidays has been clarified. However, if you have any questions or concerns about the process for the scheduling on holidays or your rights, contact your steward.
