BC Safety Authority - bargaining update

February 3, 2012

Bargaining for a new collective agreement commenced on January 13th and we have now been at the bargaining table for four days: January 13th, 26th, 30th & 31st.
We are pleased to advise you that progress has been made in a number of areas:

  • "No bullying" language has now been included under the definition of harassment;
  • A joint Rehabilitation Committee process to encourage and facilitate return-to-work planning for members who have been ill or injured;
  • Some changes to the language regarding the grievance and arbitration procedure, in an effort to streamline and speed up the process.

There has been lengthy discussion concerning the posting and filling of positions.  You raised this as an important issue to be dealt with in bargaining.  Additionally, the monetary proposals, including a general wage increase and meal allowances, are still unresolved at this time.  Your employer has been clear in advising us they are suffering financially and there is little money available in the budget to share with staff.

We were unable to schedule new dates to meet again in February, so bargaining will reconvene on March 5th & 6th.  Your Committee remains committed to reaching a fair and equitable collective agreement on your behalf.

Please ensure you receive a copy of bargaining updates by providing a personal email address to the BCGEU here.  If we already have an email address on file for you and you wish to edit or update any of your existing contact information, please send an email here.

In solidarity
