Transfer to the Facilities Sub-Sector bargaining unit

Negotiations to transfer BCGEU members covered by the BCGEU/Emergency Health Services Commission Collective Agreement to the Health Services - Facilities Sub-sector bargaining unit are ongoing. At the table are representatives from the Facilities Bargaining Association, CUPE 873 (Ambulance Paramedics and Dispatchers), the BCGEU, the Health Employer's Association of British Columbia (HEABC), the Provincial Health Services Authority and the BC Ambulance Commission.

Once agreement has been reached, BCGEU members at Emergency Health Services, working in the BC Ambulance Service and at BC Bedline, will be covered by the terms and conditions of the Health Services and Support Facilities Sub-sector Collective Agreement, as varied by any agreements reached during the current negotiations. The subject of the current negotiations is to determine how the collective agreement will be varied, how members will transition to the new collective agreement and when.

There are three collective agreements which the parties are dealing with: the Health Services and Support Facilities Sub-sector Collective Agreement, the agreement between CUPE 873 and the Emergency Health Services Commission and the collective agreement between the BCGEU and the Emergency Health Services Commission. All three collective agreements differ with respect to both working conditions and compensation. There has been an agreement to negotiate variances for the CUPE 873 bargaining unit initially. The BCGEU continues to sit as an observer during these negotiations. Once agreement has been reached for CUPE members the parties will turn their attention to the BCGEU bargaining unit.

The current collective agreement between the BCGEU and the Emergency Health Services Commission continues to be in full force and effect.
