Mental Health First Aid Training - BCGEU


The Canadian Mental Health association recognizes Mental Health Week from May 1 – 7, 2017.

BCGEU members have requested more focus, training and resources to be provided in support of mental health. Mental Health First Aid Training will be offered to Local 303 and Local 803 Occupational Health and Safety Representatives at the Lower Mainland office.

The goal of Mental Health First aid Training is to improve mental health literacy.

The workshop provides participants with the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems in themselves, a family member, a friend or colleague.

By the end of the training, the participants will recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health problems; be able to provide initial support to a person who may be developing a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis and be prepared to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.

Upcoming course Session Dates:

Wednesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 9am to 4:30pm

BCGEU Lower Mainland Area Office #130 – 2920 Virtual Way, Vancouver

This training is 12 hours in length, to be completed in 2 sessions over a two day period. You must attend both days in order to be eligible for the course completion certificate.

Seating is limited to 24 participants. If you are interested, register at http://events.bcgeu.ca/labour_code_mental_health_first_aid_course please mention if you will require a leave of absence (HQ paid) or if you have any dietary restrictions.
