Marilyn McLean is a Member at Large for Component 4. "I am a sister, mother, daughter, health care administrator and union activist. I am passionate about working for what is right, fair and reasonable for my coworkers, my patients and my community, and believe that, simply put: better jobs create better communities for all. My childhood was spent in a small south eastern Ontario farming community. My father captained search and rescue ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and my mother was a unionized employee in the manufacturing industry. At an early age, I learned the power of how the collective voice could and did inspire positive changes in our communities.
"At age 14, I successfully petitioned the local school board to make equitable changes to high school bus routes, and in my early 20’s organized a Vancouver hotel property to become represented by Local 40, Bartender and Culinary Workers Union. I am Client Information Specialist at Lifelabs Medical Laboratories, a shop steward, a bargaining committee member, and have had recent opportunity to organize with the BCGEU. I am both humbled and honored to be elected by my peers to Component 4. I am truly blessed with fabulous son, daughter, new son-in-law, a wonderful man in my life, and great friends! I live in Burnaby, BC."
