Our next Steward Course is being offered to twenty Stewards on a first-come, first-serve basis:

DATE:               March 10, 11, & 12 - 2015

TIME:               9:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. daily

PLACE:             BCGEU Area Office Training Centre, 158 Oriole Road, Kamloops

This Steward Course teaches you how to better understand your role as a Steward - it includes instruction on your rights as a Steward and adds to your effectiveness by elaborating on your duties and responsibilities.

It is important that all Stewards receive this training. If you have not already taken this course,

please register for it as soon as possible.

Expenses:  Expenses which you would not otherwise have incurred (ie, mileage in excess of normal to and from work, meals not eaten at home, extra child care, etcetera) may be claimed in accordance with the allowances indicated on the Union's Expense Claim Form. If an advance is required, please contact the BCGEU Area Office as soon as possible. Out-of-town Stewards who choose to stay with family or friends are entitled to claim the Private Dwelling Accommodation Allowance. Those who require hotel accommodation will have reservations made on their behalf with the cost direct-billed to the Union.

Leave From Work to Attend: If time off work is necessary, the Union will provide you with a Union-paid Leave of Absence Application Form based on the information you provide on the attached registration form.

Be sure to obtain verbal approval to attend the course from your supervisor as soon as possible and provide the employer with the paperwork when you receive it.

The Union does not reimburse for lost overtime opportunities or pay additional wages if the course is on a member's day(s) off. Auxiliary or on-call Stewards should let their scheduler know that, should work become available, the Steward should be notified so that the Union office can be contacted and a Union-paid Leave of Absence Form obtained. The Steward should incur no loss of earnings.

How to Register: Complete the attached Registration Form and return it by hand, mail, email or facsimile to the BCGEU Area Office so that it is received by noon on February 27, 2015. A letter confirming your registration and providing further details of the Course and your required LOA will be mailed to you shortly thereafter.

No Scents Policy: It is the Union's policy to provide a "scent-free" environment at all of its functions. As such, in consideration of members with scent sensitivities and allergies, it is requested that participants refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes or scented products while attending this training. Thank you.
