Happy Lunar New Year!

The BCGEU wishes our members and their families a very happy and prosperous Lunar New Year! 

Celebrations have started around the world as we say goodbye to the Year of the Horse and welcome the Year of the Sheep/Goat. 

The Year of the Sheep/Goat arrives on Thursday, February 19th , and it marks the start of a fifteen day festival and holiday. Roughly 1/6th of the world partakes in Lunar New Year festivities, which are marked by spending time with family , parades, dragon dances, reunions, gift exchanges, and community celebrations. 

There are a number of Lunar New Year events and parades taking place around the province. Below is a small sampling of what's taking place  – join in the festivities in your community!


  • The Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival Parade will return for the 42nd year on Sunday, February 22nd, 2015. This signature event of Vancouver's Chinatown will feature lion dances, cultural dance troupes, marching bands, martial arts performances and much more. http://www.cbavancouver.ca/
