Component 12 - Administrative Services

Component 12, Administrative Services, members provide front-line administrative and support services for the B.C. Government and non-government employers.

We work in a variety of classications and positions: administrative officer, clerk, postal clerk, clerk stenographer, coordinator of volunteers, court clerk, financial officer, health unit aide, medical records librarian and technician, office assistant, data processing operator, radio, teletype and switchboard operators, stationery clerk and stockworker.


UNSUNG SUPERSTARS CAMPAIGN (2017)

Launching during Administrative Services Recognition Week April 24 - 28, 2017.

This campaign will profile BCGEU members in administrative services who go above and beyond the call of duty every workday. It's time their efforts were acknowleged and celebrated.

The Breakaway Campaign (2015-2016)

A survey of members in Administrative Services (aka Component 12) told us jobs weren't being backfilled during vacations/leaves and the majority of members didn't believe their workplaces were properly staff. As a result, workloads were unmanageable.

We created the Breakaway campaign to encourage members to avoid stress and burnout by taking their breaks. 
 


Please join us in wishing Component 12 vice president, Lori Joaquin, all the best as she embarks on her next journey, retirement!

Lori is an icon in our union, and has been a dedicated activist for decades. Her work and accomplishments are too many to list here, but here is a summary of her extraordinary work.

Lori became a BCGEU member in 1981, and in 1982 became a shop steward. In 1991, Lori became chair of local 1206, winning the Shane Murphy memorial award for her outstanding activism in 1996. She has served in almost every component executive position over her many years. She was elected in 2000 as component 1st vice, joining the provincial executive. She became component vice president in 2014.   

Lori’s well known for her dedication, fairness and her common sense no-nonsense approach to issues. She’s also a wealth of historical knowledge, and you quite often heard “We’ll ask Lori, she’ll know or have it in her notes!"

Thank you Lori for your tireless dedication to our members, our component, and our union!  You will be missed, but we all wish you well in your well-deserved retirement.
