Component 10 - Operational Services

Most members of Component 10 work for private corporations, contracted by the government to maintain provincial highways and bridges. The component includes members engaged in highway maintenance, small private ferries, some municipal governments and other private companies connected with technical services.

Job action could reach Lower Mainland next week

Highways workers responsible for road maintenance from Vancouver to Pemberton have given their bargaining committee an overwhelming strike mandate.

Earlier this week BCGEU members employed by Mainroad Howe Sound Contracting voted 88% in favour of strike action.

Highways job action has escalated steadily since our members at VSA Highway Maintenance took the lead and walked off the job in the early hours of April 23.

By now it must be perfectly clear to highways contractors that this union and our members are prepared to increase and expand our job action if that is what it takes to get a fair settlement.
