Seniors Deserve Better

Home support is the most cost-efficient way to take care of seniors and people with physical disabilities. It allows them to live longer, healthier and happier lives.

Community health workers are trained professionals, but funding cuts have made it hard for them to do their jobs. This doesn’t make sense.

Caring for seniors in their homes helps them lead longer, healthier, happier lives.

But in B.C., even though the senior population has increased by 4% in just the past year, three out of five health authorities are providing fewer home support hours.

Why? Because the B.C. Liberals have let funding for public home support services stall.

With the same funding going to more seniors, workers and clients are expected to do more with less. Seniors' care suffers.

BCGEU is the largest union representing community health workers in British Columbia. We hear the stories every day.

"I love my job. I love helping seniors. But sometimes I cry out of frustration..."

"I have a client that said one day, 'just euthanize me.' But I had to get to the next client, so I couldn't even stay and talk. Why are they cutting our time when we are the ones who see everything up close?"

We need to make a change - seniors deserve better.
