BCGEU job action aimed at City of Fort St John management – not disrupting the public

July 20, 2015

The BCGEU has reluctantly begun job action this morning. Of the 183 members we represent at the City of Fort St John, 58 are off the job today. Thirty work at city hall. The rest are from different departments within the city.

Essential services are being maintained. The union is doing everything possible to avoid disruption to the public.

Any decisions to close the arena or suspend summer recreational activities were made by the City of Fort St John.

Contrary to other reports, the BCGEU job action has been structured in a way as to NOT interfere with recreational services, such as children’s camps. BCGEU members are continuing to operate the pool and sports centre, and are available for the arena and recreational activities.

The BCGEU is seeking a more equitable offer in line with what other city employees are earning, including retroactivity.
