UBC Okanagan members ratify collective agreement

UBCO members voted 97% in favour of ratifying their tentative agreement. Highlights of the agreement are:

  • Improved classification procedure;
  • Streamlining of layoff and recall language (maintaining and improving current rights)
  • Increased employer's obligation to post positions – ongoing positions of 4 months (changed from 5 months) have to be posted;
  • Increased weighting of value given for seniority in job postings.
  • Improved shift selection language;
  • Broader rights to take leave to attend to ill family member. Changed from "illness of an immediate family member permanently residing in the employee's household…" to "illness in the immediate family"
  • Added wedding of employee to special leave;
  • One time transfer of PD surplus funds – regular employees entitled, on one time basis, to additional 3 vacation days or alternatively to cash payout of 3 vacation days – to be used by June 30, 2013; auxiliaries entitled to cash payout equivalent to 3 vacation days – to be paid out shortly after ratification.
