Tourism BC services to be moved back into the provincial government

August 21, 2009

All BCGEU Members at Tourism BC

On August 17, 2009, the Provincial Government announced that Tourism BC would cease being a Crown Corporation and its services will be taken over by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Arts effective April 1, 2010.

On August 18, 2009, the Union requested that a Labour Management Committee meeting be scheduled as soon as possible to establish communication and ensure that the Union is informed of any and all new information about this matter. The Union will play a strong role in advocating for our members as we move through this process.

The Labour Management Committee Meeting is scheduled for August 27, 2009 and will include the new Tourism BC CEO, Lori Wanamaker.

Over the coming months, the Union will be sending out all new information to our members as we receive it on future bulletins.

During this busy time, it would be beneficial to have additional BCGEU Stewards to address members' questions and concerns. If you are interested in becoming a BCGEU Steward, please contact Marlene Speed at 250-388-9948, or by email

Also, we are developing an email distribution list for our Tourism BC members to assist with the efficient flow of information. Please forward your home email address to

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your BCGEU Steward.

In Solidarity,
