Bargaining Update: BC Safety Authority

March 8, 2012

Bargaining resumed on March 5th, with the focus now shifted to monetary issues.  We have previously exchanged proposals on a wide range of non-monetary issues and made progress in many areas, including: the definition of harassment; the grievance procedure; vacation carry-over; special leaves; the Job Evaluation Committee; a joint Rehabilitation Committee process; and the LTD appeal process.

In response to our monetary proposals for improvements in benefits, premiums and allowances, and a reasonable wage increase, the Employer tabled a "Framework for Settlement", which includes minimal increases in some of these areas.  Your Employer has been clear in advising us they are suffering financially and there is little money available in the budget to share with staff.

Over the next couple of weeks, membership meetings will be scheduled to discuss the Employer's "Framework for Settlement" agreement.  Your Bargaining Committee will be available to answer your questions and receive your input concerning the remaining proposals.  We remain committed to reaching a fair and equitable collective agreement on your behalf and welcome your participation in the process.
Please watch for another bulletin to be circulated shortly announcing the times & places for the membership meetings.

We look forward to seeing you all at the meetings.
In solidarity

Your Bargaining Committee:

Don Ballard, Bargaining Committee Chair
